A lion resting in a tree is an arresting sight. The animal we so often imagine moving through grass or standing powerfully on the open plain had climbed above it all.
From the branch, the lion seemed entirely at ease. Below stretched the vast African landscape; above, open sky. For a while there was no hunt, no pursuit, no display of dominance—only rest.
I was drawn to the contrast. Here was one of the most powerful animals in the world doing absolutely nothing, and yet nothing about the scene felt empty. The stillness itself was complete. Strength was present without being exercised.
The photograph became, for me, a reminder that nature does not confuse constant activity with purpose. There are times for movement and times for rest, and both belong to the same life.
Even the lion rests. Power does not diminish when it becomes still.
